I went back down to Oxford this weekend for a two day tournament, took the camera expecting to take more photos but it was forgotten for most of the weekend.
Split into three teams of three:-
- Three Space Wolf players
- Iron Warriors, Deathguard and Blood Angels
- Grey knights, Orks and dark Eldar
we fought to gain land, after each battle the winner would pick a territory from the map. This went on until all territories were claimed.
First set of Space Wolves had decided to rename to Sabre Tooths painting the army with jungle cat patterns and mounting jump pack units on treetop style bases. Sadly he ended up losing many of the games he played but still being unfamiliar with sixth edition and after some time out of playing he did well.
I didn’t get a chance to see the second Space Wolf player in action but from what I heard at the end of the event he did well, losing some and winning more.
The third set of Space Wolves played an average set of games with an even number of wins and losses. He had the misfortune of going up against the seemingly unstoppable Orks.
The tank heavy and Aegis equipped Iron Warriors player won most of his games losing only to the Orks and the second Space Wolf army.
Deathguard seemed unstoppable until they came up against the Orks where Gazghul was finally taken down, and one mode held onto the table for dear life whilst swinging his sword as fast as he could as the Orks swarmed him.
Blood Angels didn’t have a bad set of games either but still lost a few even though they took a Fortress of Redemption.
The Orks won all their battles with some (as pictured above) being almost an instant win with the opposition being tabled by turn three. Gazghul was tearing through ranks, and only fell twice in the six games that he played.
My dark Eldar on the other hand did considerably less well, losing all their games. I think a rewriting of my list and an investment in raiders and Eldar allies is on the horizon.
The grey knights lost their first game but quickly got back into the swing of gaming after some time off and won all their games after that.
The weekend finished with an apocalypse game with only one Space Wolf player, the Grey Knights, the Orks, Dark Eldar, Blood Angels, Deathguard, and the Iron Guard as the other people had to go home. Deathguard, Iron Warriors and Blood Angels on the defence with the Orks, Grey Knights, Space Wolves and Dark Eldar attacking. The Deathguard and Dark Angels focused on the Orks whilst the Iron Warriors taking on the Space Wolves and Grey Knights.
Once again Gazghul ripped through the ranks of the Deathguard taking down two units and taking on a dreadnought. The Space Wolves were taken out by the Iron Warriors only for the Grey Knights to bite back and deal with the Iron Warriors. The Dark Eldar were almost untouched all game. The attackers won with the opponents being nearly wiped out.
The next event has been agreed for the end of June with a few improvements suggested so I have a goal for my Eldar expansion unit and for the extra Raiders, updates on that soon. Also a fully painted Angron model was brought along too so I’ve been inspired to start painting mine again so that’ll be posted soon.
